What is Permanent Make Up?

Despite the name, the process results in a semi-permanent make up look when applied to desired areas. The application of permanent makeup is a form of semi-permanent tattooing known as Intradermal Micropigmentation.

Distinct from a traditional tattoo, permanent make up is applied with a thinner needle and does not penetrate the skin as deep. Micropigmentation applies pigment to the dermal layer of the skin. The lessened penetration makes recovery time from the procedure relatively quick allowing you to enjoy the result sooner. How long the results of the procedure last can vary depending on where the make up was applied and how well its been maintained.

Is Permanent Make Up Safe?
The main pigment used in permanent make up is iron oxide.
Iron oxide is a chemical compound mixture of iron and oxygen. Commonly used as a color additive in cosmetics, the compound is FDA approved and safe for usage in permanent make up.

(c) Uses and restrictions. iron oxides are safe for use in coloring cosmetics generally, including cosmetics applied to the area of the eye, in amounts consistent with good manufacturing practice.

Apart from the pigment, it is still important to research the procedure you are interested in having done. Make sure the person you are entrusting to do this application is licensed and certified. “Think Before You Ink“, an article published by Channel 10 news Reporter Ian Margol discusses the health risks of unlicensed professionals applying permanent makeup.

Microblading is the process of depositing pigment through a series of brushstroke-like scars created in the dermis of the brow. A thin blade-like needle is used to create a realistic hair look with each stroke.

Typically taking no longer than 30 minutes to an hour, the results leave you with a full and manicured looking brow.

The cost of microblading can range between $300 and $1200 dollars depending on the technician.

Permanent Eyeliner
There are two ways permanent eyeliner is applied.

Tightline – is a thinner line of pigment applied directly above the upper lash line. The result make the eyelashes look more defined from the contrast.

Eyeliner – is a thicker line of pigment applied at the base of the lid and/or the lower lash line to create the appearance of traditional eyeliner accentuating the shape of the eye.

Permanent liner application can cost between $200 to $1000 dollars depending on the technician and if you will be applying the liner to your top lid, bottom lid, or both.

Lip Blushing
Lip Blushing is the process of enhancing existing lip color through pigment via needle injections from the line of the lip inward. This method is one of the most challenging as the lips do not hold pigment as well as other parts of the body.

The skin of the lips shed frequently and are subject to moisture consistently making it hard to retain pigment. If done correctly, the results leave the lips looking fuller similar to the effect of lip fillers.

The Lip Blushing procedure can cost between $700 to $1500 dollars depending on the technician and touch ups required to make the application last.
